My husband and I went to Atlanta this spring to go to BabyMetal concert.
Yes, we are huge BabyMetal fans♪ They are one of the most popular Japanese bands in the world. They have joined many music festivals in Europe and US, and they did US and Europe tour this year.
It is very rare for Japanese bands to succeed worldwide. They released two music albums so far, and both ranked in US billboard chart. Also, they had a concert at Wembley Arena in England in 2016. Actually, BabyMetal is the first Japanese musician to have concert there.
Today, I would like to introduce 5 songs which I strongly recommend! If you listen to these songs, I believe you will become BabyMetal fan like us:)
But before it, let me explain their basic information first.
Who is BabyMetal?
BabyMetal is a metal band with three girls and skilled band members. The girls sing and dance during their performance.
The main vocal is SU-Metal. She is 20 years old. She looks like a little girl but she sings very strongly. Her voice sounds like crystal. Very beautiful and strong.
And there are two dancers, MOA-Metal and YUI-Metal. They are like angels! They are both 19 years old.
And band is also a member of BabyMetal. All of them are really skilled and their performance are so incredible. They are called “Kami-Band”.
For example, if someone plays very difficult piano song, we sometime say “It’s Kami-play!”. “Kami” is a normal word, but recently especially young people use it as a slung.
Anyway, Kami-band is very professional. I rather like Kami-band more than girls:)

BabyMetal became popular because of this song.
When BabyMetal joined Lady Gaga’s tour as an opening performer, Lady Gaga enjoyed this song at front row with her fans! Check this article.
2. Megitsune/メギツネ
“Megitsune” means female fox. For Japanese people, fox is a symbol of clever liar. A girl in this song is hiding her real face and trying to be stronger and perfect woman.
This song uses phrase of Japanese old song (Sakura), and its music video is also Japanese style, so you can feel Japanese culture from this song!
3. Road of Resistance
It’s really cool, especially dram performance is so great!
You should listen to this song with earphones, max volume!!
This is very powerful song, so I listen to it every morning on my way to work. It gives me huge power:)
4. KARATE
As you know, Karate is Japanese martial art, and the choreography is like Karate.
This song shows Japanese fighting spirits, never give up and stand up again and again.
Karate is a martial art, not a fighting sport. Both are similar, but different sports. Karate players try to be strong both physically and mentally. Also they try to grow up as a human. Karate respects manner and courtesy.
5. Akatsuki/紅月
“Akatsuki” means “red moon”.
This is SU-Metal’s solo number.
The guitar performance during bridge is awesome, really is. So cool. This is really a “Kami- performance”. I watch and listen this part again and again every day:)
I went to their concert this year and I felt like that they were trying to become “New BabyMetal”. They used to wear short skirt any time, but at that concert, they wore pants instead. They also changed their make-up. It looks like a small change, but for BabyMetal fans, it’s a huge change.
They started their activity when they were 12 or 13 years old. But now, they are almost 20 years old. I think they are trying to change from “girls” to “women”.
I strongly believe that these changes won’t change anything great about BabyMetal, so I will keep supporting them for the future.
