The movie was directed by Tetsuya Nakajima, who made famous Japanese movies such as “Kamikaze Girls” (下妻物語) and “Memories of Matsuko” (嫌われ松子の一生).
Hideki and Kana Tahara are newlyweds. Hideki is excited about his future with Kana.
One day, a mysterious person visits the company where Hideki works. Hideki’s colleague conveys the visitor’s message to Hideki “about Chisa-san case.” As soon as Hideki hears the name Chisa, he becomes stunned. His wife is pregnant and they have picked the name Chisa for their baby. Only Hideki and Kana know the name. Soon the colleague that talked to the visitor has a mysterious death.
Two years later, more mysterious cases take place around Hideki. He is then introduced to freelance writer Nozaki and his girlfriend Makoto Higa.
* From IMBb.
“It” is a powerful ghost. It kills a lot of people and goes after Hideki and his family. But the main scene is the battle between “It” and female psychics. It was so spectacular, so it reminded me “Sin Godzilla”.
Also, you can see reality of Japanese life in this movie.
For example… It’s still not common that husband does housework or taking care of child. Hideki has his own blog and he calls himself as “IKUMEN” (a husband who takes care of child). “IKUMEN” is still special and unusual, and that’s why Hideki has such blog.
Also, Kana has a lot of difficulties to raise her daughter, Chisa.
She doesn’t have own family so if she’s in trouble, she can’t ask for help. She works at grocery shop, but she’s not allowed to leave work early even when Chisa feels sick. You can easily see that it is very difficult for Japanese women to raise a child with working.
This movie didn’t explain “why Hideki was targeted?” or “What is “It”. These questions were not answered…
If you are interested, you should read a book written by Ichi Sawamura.
By the way… after you watch this movie, you would not name your daughter “Chisa”… lol
